2000 V70 starting issues

Post by snevets90 »

Hello, my 2000 v70 has had the ets light on for a while. We also have a check engine light that shows a misfire occasionally. We have been replacing coils as they come up. Lately the car struggles to start after a medium to long drive. When you turn the key it whines a bit, then clicks once. It takes several minutes before it will start. Planning on replacing etm soon. Could this be the sole cause of this?

I would change out the ETM with a know serviceable unit then see what issues pop up. With my bad ETM I had no problems with coil packs. Just hard starting, oscillating RPMs and poor performance.

When you say "Whines a bit" is the engine turning over, or not? If it is turning over, is it slow or normal? if it's not turning over, could you describe the whine? More of a squeal, grinding, or a humm/buzz kind of thing?

With the "Clicks once" what happens after the click? does all power go out? does the engine start turning over? Does the engine STOP turning over?

When it takes several minutes before it starts is that several minutes of trying to start it, or several minutes of letting it rest?
"I'm bored, I'm gonna go work on the car"
...

"Again?!?"
