2000 S70 GLT SE engine mount bolt broken

Post by Rondo »

Hello all, my 70 has begun vibrating pretty badly. It has been doing it for a while and I chalked it up to a leaky exhaust as I was getting a p0442 code. I changed out the cat and found no leaks, but still had the vibration, esp while in gear at idle and under low speed acceleration. I searched the site and narrowed it down to the right side engine mount. I pulled back the fender skirt and found that there was only the bottom bolt in the mount. Looking further in, I found that the bolt had been sheared off. The mount itself looks OK and isn't collapsed. So, my question is: could the vibration be just from the missing bolt? If so, providing I can remove the bbroken one, where do I look to get a new one? Dealer? I looked in Tasca and there is only one type of mount bolt. I find it hard to believe that they would all be the same. Any help would be great. The rattling is starting to really bug me. Thanks.

Hit up the local Pick n' pull. It'll cost you a buck to get in, they'll probably let you have the bolt. But while you're there...
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

I would remove the mount and see if it is cracked. You will need to do this sooner or later to drill out that sheared bolt. Take the other bolt to a good hardware store and have them match it up. You can also place a pry bar around the engine block by the mount and see it you have any movement of the mount that is irregular.

Yeah, the pick n pull will probably be my best bet so I can drive my car there. The biggest assumption here is that I can get the old bolt out at all. Hopefully a fair amount of pb blaster will do it, but I've never had much luck with easy outs. Might have to weld a head on it.

So I'm about to attempt to remove the sheared bolt from the motor mount bracket on the engine tomorrow. Can I easily remove the bracket from the engine as long as it is jacked up? That would be much easier than doing it in situ.

The engine mount is easily removed. I would remove bolt from frame then slightly jack up engine then remove the two bolts from the block.
