I recently bought a 2001 V70 T5 and am quite happy with my purchase. I am working through a "punch list" of repairs. Right now, the most annoying of these is a recurring P0442 code. I've replaced a cracked gas cap seal. I've located at least one crack in the EVAP canister J-tube thanks to this site. It is possible that the repair is still allowing some leakby or that it is not the only leak in that tube.
So, it is time to replace that J-tube. I really don't want to drop the rear axle to get in there for this $17 part. I've seen a few indications that this can be done by lowering the rear exhaust hanger bolts and possibly the heat shield? Has anyone had success with this? Is there anything else that can be (relatively easily) moved or removed to make this easier?
Also, how is the hose clamp removed without damaging the plastic canister?

Just to update anyone else about to do this.
It CAN be done without touching any axle or suspension components (at least on the 2001 V70 T5.) You'll need to drop the last three sets of exhaust hangers and let the muffler touch the ground. You can then get the muffler heat shield out of the way.
Prying the hose clamps off is a pain with this limited amount of access to them, but with patience it is possible. It took a couple hours, but at a total installed cost of less than $20, it is worth the savings over the dealer charge. You'll want a headlamp and safety glasses as plenty of dirt and debris drops off the underbody when you're moving things around.
You'll also want to take your replacement hose into a hardware or auto store and get a pair of stainless steel hose clamps before you start the job. The hose is just over 5/8" OD. The pair I got were less than $1 each.
I found not one, but three cracks all the way through the wall of the old tube. No wonder this thing was throwing the P0442 code even after attempted patches. I likely didn't get all of the cracks covered.
