I will soon get to the point where I have to re-install the rear jacking points and the brake lines that run through them.
Having not replaced the rear calipers and lines (hard and soft) to the rear brakes on an AWD P80, I need advice on the best way to tackle this. Hard lines are not the real issue, it is whether it is best to attach the flexi/soft pipes to the hard lines first, or to the caliper first? With them attached to the caliper they are cumbersome to work with, but attaching the flexi-lines to the hard lines would be a lot easier as I can build up the rest of the rear suspension and drive axles/hubs without the calipers in the way. Thoughts please?
Thanks,
Neil.

Here's a couple thoughts just for perspective. If you attach first to calipers, then hang calipers, off the rotor, like during axle change, you can then have some wiggle to attach to hard lines. Conversely, if you attach first to the hard lines, then hang the calipers-off the rotors, you have some wiggle to attach to calipers, I would probably do the former, I think it would be easier in terms of manipulation required. just thoughts from a FWD guy though
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Thanks for trying to help, but the AWD rear brakes are just a pain. I also don't have any rear suspension currently to hang the rear calipers from. The rear jacking points have to be removed to remove the rear sub-frame, and the hard line for the RH rear brake runs over the front of the sub-frame, so you have to remove the hard lines and flexi's as Volvo made the usual stupid decision to run the connection through the jacking point. 2 connections on the left and 1 on the right. Also to countersink the ends of the flexi pipes into the jacking points making holding the hex ends near impossible, particularly when rusty.
Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of this area to show you just now suffice to say Volvo made the access particularly difficult on the LH side and just plain difficult on the RH side.
Neil.

I have installed the soft line to the brake pipe then came back and attached caliper. It is just picular spinning the caliper as an unwieldy nut. Put a wrapper over the brake line end to keep debris out.

Thanks for the link cn90. I have done the cables several times, it is the hard brake pipes that are the challenge.
Kahl, you are thinking the same way I am. I don't want the calipers hanging around while I re-install the rear lower control arms and other parts in that area, so I will go with that taking note of keeping the pipe end covered until needed.
Appreciate the help as always,
Neil.
