This implies before the fact, not after, correct?matthew1 wrote:For turning, lane changing...
My daily observations:
A lot of good-intended drivers prefer using the signals just after the fact (that is with the intent to let others know that "I just changed lanes", or "I just made a left turn", or "I just... cut you off", etc.) in case that nobody saw that...
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

SWMBO is so good, I got used to finding my cars in the driveway with the turn signal still on.

I think the poll can be broken down further. The relationship between signalling behavior and spark plug choice. I'm sure it was one of those three prong iridium guys who turned in front of me last week without signalling. Cowboys.
On a more serious note - depends on where I am. Middle of nowhere, no other cars - no signal. Stop light, long island - signal. Highway - Signal. I've gotten better since my son took his drivers test and I just got tired of hearing him lecture me on the evils of not signaling.

I answered 'mostly' because for lane changes it really depends. But when I turn a corner always. Now when I was still using Iridium plugs, that was a whole different story!

I'm a 99%er on this. Even when I was a punk kid, I used my signals. I always took driving rules seriously, like keep right except to pass.
Left lane squatters bothered me when I was teens/20s. Really got to me.

I'm not quite a 99%er, but probably 85-90. If I'm accelerating past left-lane hogs into clear space I may not. And as anther posted, no one to see the signal (deserted road-no traffic I may not) And until POS70 gets a new stalk, the signals like to stay on to remind me that I used them!
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

I'm with you, Matt - Always. It's just a good habit to get into.
It's all about communication and coordination on the road.
Unfortunately, fewer and fewer drivers seem to get it.
Either they just never took it seriously or they're busy getting
distracted by all of the tech our culture is being drowned in.
Turn Signals are NOT Optional !
Best of all, They Don't Cost Nuthin'.
I'm also in complete agreement with Autobahn style passing!
The signs in Alaska read "Slower Traffic, Keep Left".
No ones see's 'em, though, cause they're busy texting...
