98 v70 no start issues

Hey folks. I am having some no starts while the engine is cranking over. I misplaced my spark plug wrench, Ill get one this afternoon. Anyways I thought it might be a fuel pump issue because I depressed the shrader valve on the fuel rail while a friend was turning the ignition. During this should I notice fuel being projected out? Should't fuel pressure be at 40psi?

Next steps, jumped over the starter relay, same symptoms
- had a friend listen inside open fuel tank door for fuel pump when cranking. I read it would be audible.

Besides ensuring there is a spark, what else can I check to narrow down my diagnosis.
