2000 C70 Instument Cluster Swap

Post by rubyvette »

Thought this would be an easy one. The clock stopped working on my 2000 C70 coupe. After discovering that the clock was not a removable piece like the 850 trip computer, I figured I would have to swap the whole cluster. I found a cluster with similar miles from a 99 S70 at the local pick and pull. My Volvo mechanic friend and I just did the swap and the new cluster worked, but he couldn't clear the flashing up arrow and check engine lights. I can't remember specifically but he said something about faulty software codes... Well, we swapped the original cluster back in and the codes clear, but the original broken clock is back! Is my problem the 99 cluster or are we missing something?

Don't know about 99s and 00s, but on 01s and up you have to program the module to the car in most cases. If the S70 was a non-turbo or manual vs auto difference, you probably need a new module, or at least, reflashing the program.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
