That's pretty cool, I wonder if they actually used the same engine. In the part of the show that they picked up the car it had the old style timing cover and distributor, when they showed it in the new car it had the new style timing cover and coil packs.

Guessing that they went with coil packs for ease of tuning.

I agree, he should have done some 1/4mile times or raced it.
