DIM problems/ Radio issues

Post by f1volv211 »

Hello everyone, I came across this site while searching for a fix for my wife's 2006 S60.

1) The first issue was the clock, its just runs and runs and runs, never stops..

2) Now the trip 1/2 no longer works, there is no response when you press button and it will not record mileage.

3) Have a random beeping noise that happens intermittently. ( Started happening at the same time trip meter stopped working)

I recently sent the DIM out to Automotive Scientific in TN for repair, they said they couldn't get the cluster to produce any of the issues I was having so they couldn't fix it.

The car has the HU-650, sometimes it wont turn on, you can press the power button and there is no response. Since the radio is acting up and I know that is part of the central computer system is it possible that the radio is the cause of all of these issues?

Thinking about picking up a new aftermarket head unit, but im a little skeptical after reading some of the issues people seem to have with them.

Any advice is appreciated!!

As for radio you need to check if you get power at it's connector.
If there is no power so CEM can be the culprit.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

Did you just got the car? If not, anything happened before this issues did appear? Such as a battery boost.

If you just got the car along with the issues, the clock thing might mean there is a possibility the DIM was somehow damaged maybe by an electrical short. Also try to find out if the car was initial delivered with the HU-650 unit, or if the previous owner tried an upgrade.

Normally the soft beeping noise is for maintenance interval, there is a procedure how to reset it on Youtube

We've had the car for 3-4 years. Clock has always been that way since early on, others issues just recently stared. As far as I know the head unit is stock. Ill check out the video, thanks.

Update- I found a new/used DIM from Erie Volvo that was within 300 miles of the cars actual mileage. Installed it about 3 weeks ago and it has been working great, no beeping, clock doesn't run and trip A/B now works.

Next I am going to pick up another HU-650 and see if that fixes the issue with the radio.

out of curiosity, what was millage reading right after replacement; your own or the the other one?
S60 2002 180K miles looks and runs like new (except when sulking)

The new one. Mileage is in the DIM module. It is the main one for it.
