1998 V70t5 Inner CV making noises

Post by darylrobert »

It sounds like my right hand inner CV joint is going bad...and fast. Yesterday I investigated a strange squeaking/creaking noise coming from the front right CV joint, rubber boot is not broken and the noise is very faint. Today the noise is louder and a definite clicking and clunking all in the space of a few days. I have a spare shaft but its a manual one which is the one I should have installed after my tranny conversion 5 years ago. Question is do I need to change both sides at the same time, its only the tube which is thicker I believe ??

You can mix and match the axles as far as I know. Raxles were always very specific about getting the correct axle but most of the auto parts stores make no distinction between automatic or manual transmissions. On my old XC I had a manual axle on one side and an automatic on the other and it drove fine.
