What's a recommended fuel filter that I can buy at the auto parts store? About 6 or 7 years ago I just bought a generic one and its been fine but with the car's apparent longevity I'll spring a few extra dollars for something better.

I'm going to replace the rubber hoses on either side of the roll over valve and while I'm there I'll replace the fuel filter...might as well since I'll be right there and removing the filter will give me better access.

Bosch Fuel Filter about $22.
Mahle Fuel Filter about $16.50 (rmeuropean dot com).

Mahle is an excellent name.

 Google is your pal; first hit for Bosch is $18.17 at AutoHausAZ, probably cheaper at Amazon. And I'm sure you can pay more for a Mahle if you shop around.

Anyway, splitting hairs aside, OP's actual question was for a filter he can walk in and buy at the parts store, so this handful of good suggestions should be helpful.

The main point of the question was what can I pick up in an auto parts store.?

I'd like to do the replacement tomorrow because I have time to do it tomorrow. I don't have time to wait for it to be delivered. Let me tweak the question a bit. i've not seen any of the suggested items in the stores here.

Anybody know about puralator? I've been using their oil filters for years with no issues. The oil filters appear to be high quality and I can get a purolator fuel filter at Advance.

Anything but Fram will be a good choice. Puralator would be an excellent choice. Fram would probably be fine, but why support a company that makes inferior oil filters.

OP, since we do not know what autoparts store is near you, hard to make a good suggestion. Napa and Carquest usually carry higher quality part at not much more price than Autozone, they can usually get their part from their warehouse in less than 3 hours if they don't already have the part in stock. Call them and ask.

Convenience has its own problems. At my local OReilly, NAP, the parts are either:

1. Made in China

2. If Bosch, Pierburgh, it is 2x-3x the price online. Way over-priced.
So, if you ever see a quality part (that you get at autohausaz or rmeuropean dot com), it is certainly over-priced.

This is why I usually make a shopping list for non-urgent issues like Fuel Filter, Cap/Rotor, Bosch wipers etc. etc. Then order a whole bunch of stuff from autohausaz or rmeuroepan dot com to save shipping costs. Plus you get to do a lot of maintenance stuff in a single weekend, rather than bits and pieces over many weeks, which actually waste more time.

No rush to do a fuel filter. They are 100k mile items on these cars. Most people who report 'fuel filter problems' misdiagnose.
