Winter Wheels & Tires for 98 V70 XC

I hope you are all doing well.

I am trying to get some reasonable winter tires and wheels for my V70 and am evaluating my options.

There are some Momo wheels from a V60 available with nice Michelin tires, the sellers are motiviated.

Can my 98 V70 XC take a 215/50R17?

My stock rims are 15", but the sidewall ratio is lower on the 17's...

They should fit but they are at the limit of what I like to do as far as speedometer difference. With the 17s the speedo will under-report by 5.2%, says you are going 70 but really you are going 73.5. The IPD page has all the info for center bore and offset, I think the offset difference would be OK but of course your best bet is to actually hear from someone who has used that wheel size.

From the IPD site, (if I did my calcultations correctly) I would increase my tire/wheel height from the center of the hub by 1 inch.

Depending on the actual offsets of the Momo wheel and my V70 XC rim, I could be increasing my displacement toward the outer fender by 0.275."

Sounds iffy... lol Maybe the seller would let me fit one.

Think I entered the wrong tire size for mine...

I have 205-65/R15.

I am considering 215-50/R17.

Increase in distance from hub center: 16.75" to 18.41"

My little spreadsheet was wrong.

Looks like increase from hub center in wheel/tire height is negligible.

205-65/R15 = 12.75"

215-50/R17 = 12.73

First check that the center bore of the hub is correct. Needs to be 65.1mm if I recall correctly. Some newer Volvos have smaller diameter.

I would suggest the best is to run the 15" diameter steel wheels and 195/65/15 tires as recommended by Volvo. Wider tires give less grip in snow.
