Is Oil consumption a prblem in 2012/2013 XC60

Post by vrybl »

I am thinking of buying a used 2012/2013 XC60, and I have noticed a lot of people mention excessive Oil Consumption issues and resulting repairs. How often does one see this problem? Are there ways to check this problem prior to buying the car. Is there anything else to be concerned about in used 2012/2013 XC60? Thank You.

Can't speak for Volvo, but sometimes they use the same parts. Had a 2011 Audi Q5 which were plagued with all of a sudden severe oil consumption at very low miles. Dealer replaced a PCV separator located conveniently on top of the engine, with a redesigned part. However, other owners were less lucky as they also required new pistons because of the PCV issue. All covered under warranty by Audi (which by the way seems very respectful when it comes time to take responsibility for a faulty design, as opposed with another brand we all know too well). And the car also had a faulty oil level sensor, on top of it, also replaced under warranty. I've heard Bmw had similar issues.

The engine code is B6304T4. This engine is used in multiple Volvos including S60 T6.

Many are also now complaining about oil burning issues in the 2012 Volvo S60 T5, but it's likely due to something entirely different I think.

Actually, T5's in the XC60 may also be affected since it's the same motor I believe. I don't have access to Volvo's system to tell.
