XC70 folding mirrors, both stopped working

Post by maxb747 »

Hi all,
Last week I opened the car with remote and all doors opened except both front doors and the mirrors didn't unfold. Opened the front door with key and pulled Circuitbreakers 11C/ 4 - 5 - 6 -> ignition on/off -> replaced CB in reverse order and everything normal again except both mirrors failed to operate. So disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to no avail.
What puzzels me is that both mirrors fail to operate and everything like mirror adjustment - power windows - central lock on drivers side operate normally.
Checked with VIDA-DICE and actuation of windows-mirror adjustment respond to the activation. The mirror folding activation gives a :"no signal" error ( What is the meaning of this ? Is the motor not responding and why both of them). Also checked the door connectors in the drivers door.
My question is: what to check next.
Thanks for any help provided and seasonal greetings to all readers.

Check the fuses, you might have blown one

Good idea but 11C/4-5 (PDM/DDM) covers this and a blown one would prevent for example the mirror adjustment, so something else must be wrong?

The wiring hareness that goes from dash into door can get kinked up sometimes cause an open. Anyway, some of ur stuff works cause the actual wire for that option is probably fine but the folding mirror wire might be kinked badly or both motors could have went at same time( I doubt it though). If both folding mirrors work off the same ground wire or B+ wire then an open in one of those wires would make sense. I would jump each mirror motor itself to see if they work first since it can't be the fuse as stated, this way you know they work.

It may pay to do.as above and apply power directly to the door mirror motor but you may need to find the colors in a wiring diagram so you don't need to pull the mirror apart. The Diagnostic sect ion in Vida should summarise the installed options. Having added the power door mirror option for a customer I can say that the software is installed in the CEM not the PDM/DDM so first a check of the Diagnostics summary to see if the program is lost. Also in Vida there are activations for calibration and first use. It is hard to find the Menu. When I did this for the customer with Doublebug he remoted in to my Vida setup and set them up for first use.

There are ALWAYS fuses so please check them first.
