headlights
i have a2006 S40 2.5 FWD. when I start up my car, my headlamps, taillamps, and dash lights are all on. My headlamp switch is in the off position. I don't have auto headlights, does someone have a diagnosis for this problem?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
When did this problem start? Has it always done this? Are there any other electronic peculiarities that have happened or CEL codes? Are there any electrical modifications or additions (amplifier, radio, fog lights, security system)? And, does everything work in the car like it should once the car is running?
Just as an FYI these cars will do weird things when the battery is about to go out. This also may have something to do with the Starter Control Module but you should get some CEL codes for that.

My '06 V50 also turns the headlights on. This apparently is normal operation, and IIRC it is in compliance with some set of auto regulations/standards. Turning it off was not a menu option and I believe it would require a firmware mod to make it go away.
Les is more.
