S70/V70 Knee Bolster Delete/Cubby Retrofit

I picked up the '99+ style cubby knee panel at the junk yard last weekend, and I was installing it when I noticed that it does not clear with the right bracket for the knee bolster I removed. I saw someone say he cut the panel, but I want to remove that bracket all together. Does anyone know how I can do that? I tried getting in there with a wrench, and there isn't enough space.

You may have to remove/loosen/disconnect the lower part of the dash panel where it screws at the bottom to the 'A' pillar. If I recall, you have to first remove the plastic kick panel along the floor, and this allows you to get to the screws to loosen the lower part of the dash. This may give you enough room to get in with a wrench to remove the bracket.

Hopefully that will give me enough room, I'll take a look at that tomorrow. I'd rather do a little extra work and have it cleanly fit than hack everything up.

I have a remove dash in the basement I can take pictures of if you need them (it has the extra pocket as per my 2000 V70R).

The knee bolster is there for safety issues.
In a head-on collision, the driver knee may hit the bolster.
Many people sustain hip fracture simply because the knee goes straight into the area under the dash.

Passenger side is being discussed. My 2000 'R' does not have a passenger side bolster or even provision for one as it has the extra shelf under the glove box.

I am keeping the driver's side one, the passenger side is the one I removed. If you have the shelf as in the 1999+ models, you don't have the bolster.

That being said, I got the bracket out, and the panel fits great! I had to pull back that side dash panel and pull back the weather stripping. DAMN those bolts were on there! Thank goodness for my very well-made Craftsman ratchet that I was able to wedge in there!
