2000 S70 GLT SE ETM Failure -- Repair Questions...

Post by ericpeterson »

Well, there's no shortage of information online.

By way of summary... 2000 S70 GLT SE, 115,000 miles, ETS light, Check Engine light, diagnostic code P0121, original white label ETM.

Starts and runs. Highly erratic throttle response with hesitation and surges when pressing the gas. Idles along at 10 mph OK, but the idle stumbles from time to time.

OK, so it's probably the ETM feedback pots. Probably. This is my college student stepdaughter's car. We've had to rent her a car for the interim, so I'd like to fix it ASAP.

I've ordered the Sacer single cap refit kit that will need to be wired in and voltage-adjusted. I'm both an EE and an ME -- and I work in engine management systems -- so this doesn't scare me. I'll pull the old ETM later today so that I'm ready for parts, whichever way we go...

I've also purchased a yellow label 8644347 out of a '00 V70 with a build date of 2011. There's a guy on ebay who has dozens of them and the price is down to $90. I know -- it's still a contact pot and it will still wear out -- but at least it's only five years old and it's cheap.

My questions are:

(1) Can the magnet position be adjusted on the Sacer refit unit on the bench? Can I feed it 12 volts and check the output voltage without installing it?

(2) Can I get the wrecking yard yellow label unit programmed for the VIN before it's installed? Or does it have to be adapted to the other components in the car... and am I looking for trouble trying to get it flashed without updating the ECM?

Thanks...

Moved to the Ask XeMODeX forum because, well, it's there. (And it's new, and this is an ETM question.)
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

No, the magnet's position is fixed, here we program the sensor itself on the actual ETM housing after the magnet and the cap is installed. Programming is only possible on original sensors, clones are locked and can't be reprogrammed. TPS reference is 5V not 12V.

ETM software programming before installation can be done by us http://xemodex.com/us/product/electroni ... 822-10-23/
Programming after the installation can be done by any shop with VIDA.
