just bought a 94 855 manual

Post by NO_SPRK »

hey guys I'm a old Volvo guy but just got a 855 manual at a great price. bought it not running and only needed a coil wire (corroded)

Ive been doing some maintenance on it. plus some exterior upgrades. i need to do all the shocks and front axles then it should be great.

i added v70 taillights. grabbed a OEM tape player from the junkyard. did a tune up and oil change.

previous owner had a volvo shop change the timing belt 5000 miles ago. i removed the wal-mart hub caps and will keep the steelies :-D

im looking to go small, cheap upgrades and just enjoy it for what it is.

I have a '94 854 with a stick that I just love. It came to me with a set of Columba wheels that really make it stand out. You can pick up some decent looking Volvo rims for a relatively cheap price, $100 for a set is about average if you are patient.

Nice looking ride!

Hey another 140 guy! I have a 68 144 and a 69 145

Oh cool! Does yours have a dual mass flywheel? What kind of HWY MPG are you seeing?

I think mine does. It feels heavy reving up around town. But once at speed on the highway your pedal input is very minimal. Plus I can hear it shake a tiny bit when I shut it off.

The car is almost too quiet. I need torque mounts bad so ive, been easy on the clutch.

On highway trips I top 30 mpg without trying and I accelerate in a fairly aggressive manner. I think it does have the dual mass flywheel but I really didn't pay that much attention to it when I changed the clutch beyond taking it in to get it surfaced. I was focusing more on the Rear Main Seal at that stage of the process. The old seal didn't leak but at around 240k miles I figured I might as well change it while it was right there in front of me.

My '94 has the 2nd generation engine without the VVIS and it has the wider timing belt. Based on the picture, I'm guessing yours is similar since you have the second generation nose. I think that the change in the headlights was right around the break point on the engine.
