1998 V70 T5 question about adding center speaker

Post by TrstnBrtt »

I already have an SC-901 in my car along with the alpine amp and joy of joys today at the wrecker I found a C70 with a center speaker so I bought it. I can't get the SC-901 to recognize the center speaker though, it's plugged in but pressing "Mode" as per the SC-901 manual doesn't bring up the Dolby menu and you can't hear anything out of the speaker. Do I need the Pro Logic Processor as well or should the unit power the speaker on it's own? Sorry if this has been asked but I did some googling around and couldn't find any information. The donor C70 didn't have the processor that I could find as it had been replaced with an aftermarket head unit (who does that?)
If I paid attention to signs with little symbols I’d never find anywhere to park.

No
Did you use a Volvo center speaker harness or did you make it yourself?
Is the center speaker knob turned up?
The center speaker works off the radio not the separate amp and if hooked up properly I think should work.
I've never tried one without a processor, it's possible that plugging a processor in allows the speaker to function, I'm just not sure.

You have to have the processor.

I have the Dynaudio/Alpine/Dolby system. You need the Dolby unit for the center spkr to work.

Yes, from what I've read, you need the Dolby processor in order to use the center speaker.

Thanks for the replies. Judging on the amount of time it took me to find the speaker and dash I think I might just t-tap the speaker onto another speaker and if a Processor pops up around then I'll put it back the way it should.

I wouldn't recommend it for a plethora of reasons.

First off, I just avoid chopping OEM harnessing on GP...
Then, there's the whole impedance mismatching aspect.
And if you want a center channel, give the speaker an actual
center channel feed! There's a processor in there for a reason.
My favorite? Don't leave out the effect of the entire, system
wide Dolby Surround package. It's a major improvement for
most music mixes. Not all, but most. I think you'll like it. 8)

Start watching the classifieds or drop a WTB of your
own and you'll have a module on the cheap in no time.

( OK...No current "Dolby" hits on VS, right now. Good Link, though).

The same car you got the center speaker from probably has the processor unit in it. It is down by the heater core. Make sure to grab all associated wiring harnesses.

There's really not any harness to speak of.
Just the attached cable to the HU. Easy peasy!

I searched the donor car pretty well. The speaker was already pulled out when I got to it so it may have been pilfered already. Plus that boneyard is over an hour away so I guess I'm hooped for now. As for classifieds I'm in Canada so by the time you convert our terrible dollar and add shipping it's just not worth it. That being said it looks cool just sitting up there haha. Oh well.
