The ABS module was rebuilt within last 2+ years or so. TRACS OFF light came on and has been on a few months now, 96 850t. Is this a wheel sensor issue, something at the wheels otherwise, or electrical-switch problem? Where would you advise me to look next? Thanks.

Are you real sure that the tracks switch didn't get pressed? The only other thing I can think of is that the TRACS switch is bad.

I've had the issue come up about 8 times but never with one of my own cars. The only definitive thing that has come along with it is a charging/battery issue or the TRACS switch. I've never been able to replicate it with any of my own cars, even when I've had a battery issue. I've never had a steady under/overcharge issue to try it out. Whatever causes it is obscure as it doesn't have any bearing on anything else.

Just that light won't trigger a code in the module either.

Check engine code. It will tell you exactly where to look.

There is a P0331 knock sensor code that won't go away for long, and the TRACS light off has been on before and after the code. So maybe it is the switch, if I understand the advice above correctly. No manual manipulation of the switch itself seems to make a difference. So is the TRACS system functional with the light indicating system is off? Might be a silly question..

Probably not but since the ABS light isn't on I would guess that the ABS is working. The ABS actually does something but in reality the TRACS really only makes noise and gives the illusion that it is doing something. I have never had less wheel slip in snow with it on than it had without it. The biggest irritant that you will have is the light itself being on.

If I were you I think I would start by pulling a battery cable and see if it goes out afterwards. You will of course need to have your radio code handy before you remove the cable.

Thanks, I will do exactly that. Then figure out how to pull the switch, swap one out if still persists and motivated enough. Service light is also on, so might be time to pull a couple of dash bulbs.
