1998 S70 T5 SE for sale - Thoughts?

Saw this ad today. What are your thoughts? Mileage is not horrible, but to-do list could be expensive:

I have the exact same car, I bought it with 220,000km. It needed a lot of little work: mainly emissions stuff: 02, EVAP, air pump, interior issues, parking brake, CV boots, but overall it ran great.

I'm surprised its having trans and PS problems. I would check to see if fluid is burnt, and where in PS it is leaking. Are CV boots torn or is CV destroyed, two different issues. When I bought my car, the trans fluid was never changed but still shifted fine.

If the trans and PS is truly messed, beat the price down a bit or walk away.

$650 seams pretty high considering the fundamental issues. If I were you I'd say no. It seems like any system that holds fluid is leaking (save for the windshield washer reservoir) on that car. That all depends on how bad the leaks are, which are hard to know right off the bat.

i'd buy it, yank the seats, and scrap it. Looks like R upholstery.

This doesn't sound like a very informed assessment. But IMHO, it would raise a red flag anyway.

Besides that, it sounds like it would need about $2k worth of parts and a lot of love to put it up in tiptop shape.

While I can't see the entire drivers seat, the SE interior with the leather door panels in very desirable black in nice condition is surely worth $500 to someone in our community.

That price is CDN$ or about $450 US. The issues are not too bad, but the exception is the trans and steering. If the steering is just leaking pipes then not too bad, but if it is the rack it is expensive. The trans could just need some love, but if it is bad then the car is scrap. Bottom line you guys see it the same way I do. If I had the room, then I'd buy it and part it out, but I don't. Hate to see a T5 being scrapped though. As for rust, it is funny as we do get rusty cars here, but often Volvos of even this age are often ok other than damage caused by rocks.

Threw this up there to see what the great minds thought and it is a clear thumbs down!

Dang 450? Yeah that's worth it. I'd use it as a donor car, at the very least.
