Oil filter question

Post by Moneypitowner »

Hey guys, I'm going to be running some auto-rx through my oil. I have relatively recently changed the oil, still clean...
The oil filter is about the same level as the pan, can I change it out (required, if I follow the directions) without draining the pan/loosing much oil?

Thanks,
Dave O.

No problem doing that. You will loose less than a quart. Remember the car has to run a few minutes to fully remove air from the filter. Run at idle for 5 min. Shut it off for 5 min for oil to drain back to pan. Then check oil level with car still off and add as necessary. This should be done on a level surface under the car. (Car should be level)

You can change the oil filter without draining the oil exactly the same way you'd change it after draining the oil. You'll lose the same amount of oil that's in the filter.
