240 sets code 1-1-3

Post by 1962galaxie »

Hello,

I have a '92 240 that I am working on for a buddy, so you know how that goes. Lots of background. Car has the more uncommon LH3.1. Car was getting very bad mpg, but drove pretty well. Buddy didn't understand why. Check engine lamp had been on so long, bulb burnt out and buddy forgot it was on. I put in a new bulb and at that time found code 4-1-1, which I traced to an incorrect TB which had a LH2.4 idle switch. Replaced throttle body off a known good running car. Idle TPS is now about .5v and goes up linearly, and I've tried tweaking this up and down slightly. MAF was 2.7 off and 3.7 idling, which seemed high, so I replaced MAF with new, and got same results. Air box thermostat was bad and replaced that for cold air intake. Coolant temp sensor is in spec. O2 sensor will switch up and down well if I just create a slight vacuum leak by pulling off the brake booster hose and pinching it half shut. Code 1-1-3 will set within about 5min of warm idling, less time driving, but will clear. Before the code sets, it seems as if it is slightly lean, but that's hard to say because it is still in open loop and warming up. Fuel pressure is good (44 idling w/ hose off, and 35 w hose on) and regulator is not leaking. Just for giggles, I smoked the intake and air hoses for leaks and found none. Code 1-1-3 says "fault in fuel injectors," so for giggles I took all the injectors out, ohmed all and they were the same, about 16ohms. None leaked on my test bench, and all sprayed well. Flame trap is clear (newer), plugs, cap, etc all good and have been changed, cam timing was checked and found good. Engine makes OK power under load. BTW, all pinout values were taken @ PCM.

But I still get the 113 code!!!! I've about had enough and may just have to hand it back broken. I should also mention that I have access to ALLDATA, which is mostly incorrect for this car, and a Bentley manual which is better, but not full when it comes to diagnostics. I tried to get a VIDA copy, but a lot of the early car stuff is incomplete. Any help would be so very appreciated. Incidentally, I have some buddies with Volvo shops and they have requested that I not send it to them!

Two pieces of trivia: The car has no cold start fast idle. Valve will open if I jumper it, and I'm attributing this to the fault code being set and the car being in limp-in. Also, every once in a while, the alt will quit charging, but this is rare, and I've not tackled that yet. All these tests were done when it was charging with voltage over 13V @ battery.

HELP!!! please.
