What are the two little boxes in front of ECU Box?

Today, I noticed two little black boxes in front of the ECU box near the washer bottle filler on my new to me '95 850T5-r. I opened the cover and saw a button and a small red light display and an "A" next to button. There is a butt connection that can plugged into 6 different ports . . what is this? Alarm?

They are the OBD-I DTC boxes. You can interrogate all of the monitored systems in the car from those boxes.

In the manual each system and its related error codes, along with other diagnostic procedures, is spelled out in fairly concise terms.

Thanks! Now if I can just figure out why I have dash lights but no warning lights! Weird!
