Hello everyone, this is my first post but I am avid read ya'll saved me a bunch of headaches in the past. But I cannot find any answers on this head scratcher I will try to include the most details possible. I have a 2000 Volvo s40 (manufactur date is 12/99) she has about 130k mileage give or take a few. The problem started a few years ago (95k milage) with a light knock sound when I would take a hard left at decent speeds around 20-30mph. Whenever I hit a bump (around 95k- present) it would make an ugly bang noise. I took it to a mechanic and he said it's your struts theyre bad and need to be replaced, he quoted us at $1200 for parts and labor. We decided that my dad and I would changed the struts we did it at about 110k (the spring didn't sit right and ended up destroying the spring seat, strut mount, strut bearing on both side and bent both shafts of the strut) and then again at 113k (we fixed it right this time had a family friend who is mechanic help us out). While we had her jacked up and fixing struts we changed all 4 break pads and rotors we believe the job is finished but when we took her on the test drive I didn't even pull out of the parking spot and the bang noise was still present. When I turn the wheel left it happens, also when I turn the wheel right BUT it seems to be more frequent when the wheel turns left. The sound is a bang/boing (to best describe the sound it's a bang with a springy resonance and sometimes it's a bang with no springy resonance, it seems to be the same noise) it happens when I turn the wheel in either direction it happens if she is in park or while driving. Even today the ride is rough you can feel every little dip or bump in the road, and when you hit a bump she makes that noise I described the bang/boing.
Any help is greatly appreciated, if ya'll need more info or details please let me know I'll be more happy to provide more info or greater detail.
