I will guess you are talking about the bulbs in the cluster, where there are usually 194 bulbs? A 194 is 3.8 watts / 14 V, I don't think I would be dropping 20 W bulbs in there. Might catch it on fire.

A 1.4 W bulb (#74) in there will be dim. Standard replacement is the 14V/3.8W (#194) although it is not the 12V/3W that shipped with the car; if you want a treatise on bulbs check this out:

Pointers appreciated. Searching around some more I found cn90's nice tutorial that includes illustrated instructions for removing the cluster and bulb types showing where the two different types go. On the same page, helpful info from others on where to buy...
