Bosch MAF for 2006 S60

Post by meriley »

Where would I go to find the correct Bosch MAF sensor number for my 2006 S60? The engine is running rough and from what I read it seems as though the MAF needs replacement. The check engine light is off right now but I'm sure it will come on again shortly. When I had my service station read the code he mentioned an air sensor and I think this is what he was referring to. I only bring the car to the dealer for oil changes as for some reason they are cheaper there - about the only thing that is. I want to order the part and then have my service station pop in in for me but I have no idea what number MAF to order. Thanks!

The number is embossed into the MAF. If you type in the Volvo # in Google, you'll find it. If you have the 2.5T, it's Bosch 0280218088. If it's the 2.4... Bosch 0280218089.

You can test the MAF by unplugging it, with the engine off,and then seeing if the rough running improves.

If it doesn't, you probably have a vacuum leak in one of the many hoses.

Replacing parts guided by engine codes without deeper diagnosis usually means you replace 2-3 good parts before you find Volvonirvana.

Whenever some reads your codes, get a look at the scanner and get the actual code...P1234 format. Snap a picture on your smart phone.

Me first for scan reader. LOL. In Derry, NH off exit 5 on 93 now, but car is where I said it was in my PM the other day.
Excellent advice on part swapping. A simple vacuum leak or bad ground somewhere can cascade across the systems.

Thank you for the excellent suggestions. Now I just have to pull out the volvo manual to see where the MAF is located. Stupidly, I didn't check this thread earlier when my son could have yanked it out for me. For some reason I thought I would get an email if anyone replied. DUH. I'll see if I can get my husband to figure out where it is so we can unplug it as that seems to be the first place to start. I'm hesitant to bring it to the dealer since they will charge me $119 just to read the code. They'll also probably present me with a $1000+ bill to try to fix it. : ) Mary Ellen

Right off the air cleaner box. Not much fun getting the air tube off though. Twist and bend after loosening the airplane clamp. If the car is warm it will be easier.

It comes off with the two T-25's (if memory serves) that hold it to air cleaner top. The unit also contains not only the MAF, but the intake air sensor (IAT).

If your car is turbo you have the 0280218088.

If non turbo it depends on the engine management system. Up to 2004 they used Denso but after that not too sure. If it's a 0280218089 as MarcM stated they must have returned to Bosch for non turbos.

If you can provide a happy snap of your engine bay we'll narrow it down with our super Volvo parts indentifier program.

+1 on having the car read. There are air pressure sensors as well as air volume sensors in there.
