Timing and Serpentine Belt Change now Have SRS Light

Post by PeteB »

Any tips to fix this without going to the dealer?
I'm guessing that it was just a glitch when I ran it without the serpentine belt on.

I read on here that there is a scanner for about $70 but could not find it at that price,
I think it was the Autel eu702.

Anyone?

A VAG-COM cable and VOL-FCR will get it reset. The cable is in the $15.00ish range and many of the eBay sellers throw in a copy of VOL-FCR with it along with the crack file. Most of them come from China though so it takes a week or so to arrive.

On a '96 about any independent shop that does a fair amount of Volvo work can get it reset for about 15 minutes of labor.

Thanks!
Is this common to happen, was it most likely just a glitch?

Took the car to drop my younger son off at work in Fairfield CT and remembered
that a Volvo dealer was just about 8 miles down the road in the posh, posh town of
Westport CT. Dropped in, asked them to read out the mileage, they were very
nice, had to wait about 15 minutes and they read the mileage, and reset the SRS
and service lights for no charge. I've lived in this area for most of my life and I
really expected them to at least charge 1/2 hour labor and be snobs about it. Very
impressed with Volvo of Westport!
SRS reported internal fault, he said that he didn't look up the code since it cleared.
Our 850 has 153,286 miles.

I've come to find out that the volvo dealer service department folks were usually great to help walk-ins at no charge for such as that. Sadly they've all left town and are not kia or Subaru dealers...
ugh smh 850 Turbo fridge
