AW55-51SN Transmission Problem

Post by dadyer »

I have a 2004 Volvo XC90, AWD with T5. Getting P0740 / 002f error code. I had the three sensors replaced. Two different tranny guys have told me if the fluid is clean and the sensors are good the 002f code means I need a new transmission. But...
When I leave my house, after about 2 miles, car goes into limp mode.
However...if I leave my house and put the car in cruise control as soon as I reach 35 MPH, the transmission seems to work perfectly. Even when having to stop for a red lights or stop signs, or hit the brake for slower drivers, if I can resume to at least 35 MPH and stay in cruise control mode, the car avoids going into limp mode and seems to shift fine!
It seems to me that if the car seems to work fine while in cruise control but not when out of cruise control, it is some kind of electronic or electrical problem rather than a bad transmission.
Am I crazy? Anyone familiar with this type of problem?
Thanks!
Dave
