interchangeable parts

I'm looking to sell my 94 850 turbo as a parts car and a friend of mine had a 98 v70 turbo. Im wondering if the two cars parts might be interchangeable.

I'm thinking it depends greatly on what parts. Pretty sure the turbos have different exhaust flanges (one angled and one straight).

The exhaust flanges you can just swap over, so the turbos are freely interchangeable. Although the 98 came with a 16t and the 94 with a 15g, but they can swap OK.

Basically everything mechanical will swap over, very little cosmetic/body/interior will swap over exactly.

Brakes, heater core, cooling system, alternator, relays, transmission, engine, engine mounts (except maybe the front one), radiator, axles, suspension, all of those mechanical parts are the same. Most sensors are the same. Minor differences in the intake manifolds, PCV setup, ABS module, battery cables to the fuse box, speed sensor, a few other places.

Didn't '94 have the conical flange?

other determining factor for motor is whether 98 is HPT (similar to 94) or LPT, whole different motor.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Yes, that would be the T5 (HPT) or GLT (LPT). All that was specified is that the V70 in question is a turbo. Most parts between the GLT and T5 are interchangeable, though.

To be honest I don't keep track of which flange on which car, I look it up when I need to know (but I think you are right ! :)). To swap a turbo, use the flange in the acceptor car (leave it in place or pull the whole thing out for a swap), move over just the turbo from the donor car, no fitment issue.

Good call I was assuming a 98 T5, my mistake, could easily be a GLT or XC (both LPTs as you pointed out).

That's true, you can just transfer the compressor side of it.

"The compressor side" is the whole turbo. The flange is a separate piece. If you buy a turbo it will not come with a flange, etc.
