The head gasket on my wagon needs to be replaced but it's too costly given then value of the car. Would I be better off selling to a junkyard (for $150-250) or selling it as-is to a private party for parts or whatever? It just got a new timing belt, spark plugs, rear engine mount and sun roof. The interior is in pretty good condition but there are some minor dents/scratches on the exterior. It also needs a new radiator.

Advice please!

You can get 300-500 as a running car needing a head gasket, imho

Might as well try to sell it privately! The T5 is not a common car, so perhaps a Volvo enthusiast would be willing to pay a bit more than scrap value.

How's the body and interior? Really?
A P80 fan probably won't mind small issues.
If those are in good shape, fix that sucker!
T-5's are starting thin out and '98 is a nice year.

If the body is in good condition I would encourage you to sell it whole to someone willing to fix it up. I agree, keep the T-5's alive!
