A dealer should be able to cut one based on your VIN and proof of ownership.

North town Volvo in Williamsville and Best Volvo in Rochester are your two closest, and, bring from upstate NY, you are probably right in the middle between the two.

You should be able to call in your VIN and get TWO keys made same day with your registration and License

Beg borrow steal a car from Genessee country to get there.

The good news is that they are typically fairly cheap. My local dealer had a eBay special running and they gave that price at the parts counter. As I recall they were $10.00 each and I got spares cut for everything that was pre '99. They were all cut off of the VIN number and waiting for me within a couple of hours.

I want a spare made because I only have one. Do I have to go to a dealer?

No, other places can cut them but dealer keys are usually best.

I have paid from $35 to $65. They even ship them to me.

I've asked at a couple of places that cut keys and they said they couldn't make one. Also, according to the paperwork that came with the car, it has remote keyless entry. But I didn't get a remote. That would probably be a dealer item, I assume.

Actually for an 850, it is super easy to program a remote to work with the car (actually, you use the remote to program the car ...). You have to match up the right year remote with the right year receiver module, do a little searching for details. Lots of remotes on eBay but they can be flaky, I like to get the Volvo ones, there are a lot of those still around.

I would start by checking to ensure that your car has still the module. Alternatively, if your local junkyard leaves the keys/remotes in the car, you can get a paired remote/module from that 850.

That is one shiny new remote, nice find Gary.

For the record, I speculate you could get one for $20 shipped by posting an ad in the wanted section of this forum.
