2000 V70R - AWD Weird gurgling from fuel system

Post by scot850 »

I have never noticed this before, and so far, it doesn't appear to affect the running of the car, but here is the strange issue.

I came back from running some errands this afternoon, and parked up in the garage as normal. Went inside, but had to go back into the garage maybe 15 minutes later and heard what sounds like an upset stomach. It appears to be in the area of the fuel tank and it seems to come in waves. A fairly load gurgling comes and goes and didn't seem to diminish in the 10 minutes I was out there. It was warmer here today than is normal for this time of year (26-27C) so maybe that is why I haven't heard this before?

As regulars will know I recently re-built the rear sub-frame in my car, which included new fuel pumps, and fuel pipes which also has a new pressure valve and a new fuel filler filter.

I did not replace the carbon canister, the roll-over valve or the other pressure control which mounts in front of the carbon canister.

The car seems to run just fine, but I can't figure why this went on for so long. Could it be something to do with the expansion tanks in the fuel system?

Weird issue, but any inputs appreciated, especially if it is something I need to be worried about.

Thanks,

Neil.

Dealer foreman believes it was possibly the emissions system trying to deal with the heat yesterday. Car ran fine again today.

I think the dealer foreman is probably right... I had an old Toyota Carina II which would make "gurgling" noises in the summer. Being 18 at the time, I blithely overlooked it with the unbending optimism of youth  , and it didn't seem to affect the running of the car. My dad overheard it a few times, and I seem to remember him saying that it was the fuel system dealing with the heat.
