Here's one I've never seen before....

My roomie's 2002 XC70.

Car has oil from the engine back on the passenger side which somehow managed to make it up the back window.

Here's what she said happened.

Driving home from work tonight stopped to take a phone call. For unknown reasons she decided to check oil because the oil light had come on, and she noticed it wasn't registering on the dip stick. She put a litre of oil in and still not registering. Decided to chance it and drove it home.

It made no sounds, and there doesn't seem to be any smoke coming from anywhere, but you can see oil dripping from the bottom passenger side.

Any thoughts?

Anyone seen anything like this before.

Turbo return line has broken loose. This is the signature symptom of that. If you add oil and keep driving it won't matter, it will all leak out from there until you get it fixed. It's not that hard to fix either. This happened to me once driving home from Nashville..had to stop every 15 minutes to add oil to limp home...stopped at a Walmart and bought a jug. Once I was home I fixed the silly return line the next day but the back of my car was covered with oil. If you can avoid driving the car at all, please do. If your engine goes completely dry we're talking about a seized up engine and a totaled car!!

I had almost the exact same thing with my '02 XC70. It was the front (passenger side) intake cam seal. It had come completely loose, and was literally pouring oil out of the engine. Driving it for a couple miles, at highway speed, totally coated the underside or the car and blew it up on the back hatch.

Turbo is on the other side. I agree this sounds more like a pushed seal because of clogged PCV.

Ah, wrong side for the turbo...then engine seal or it could be an oil return line that has broken. Either way, it needs immediate attention. What was it, original poster?
