Hello, 2001 v70 t5, symptom is the pedal brake is hard to push. First time this happened I was on cruise control, hit the brake and the pedal went nowhere. Pumped it a few times and got brakes. Problem is intermittent, though I hesitate to drive it in fear of this becoming a permanent condition.
Poking around under the hood and I found a broken part. I am not a mechanic, oil changes are my speed.
The part is up front on the right and looks to be a vacuum 3-way switch, coming off the intake manifold (?). It is in pieces.
Is this vacuum switch part of the brakes?
Can anyone provide a description to order this, and/or a part number to research?
My local guy is talking power booster or master cylinder or some such (sounds like big money).
Thanks ya'll.
Don C.

Depending on how long it was broken, brake vacuum pump can go too.

the switch is there to go from intake vacuum to vacuum pump while under boost.
since it's obviously broken that's probably your vacuum booster issue. Replace it and hope that the vacuum pump hasn't run itself to death.
this is a good thread on pump/switch diagnosis.

If you have all the pieces you can JB weld this back together. It's usually the plastic weld that fails
