2004 S60 CEL P0192 P0171 FPS 30756098  Topic is solved

Post by AT-JeffT » Wed May 04, 2016 8:32 pm

Hey All,

Just wanted to post about a recent issue I just had with a new-to-me 04 S60 2.4i

Car was driving excellently, without issue. No hesitation, stumbling, anything. But thew a CEL. Codes P0192 (Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor -low) and P0171 (Lean)

There was a recall on the Fuel Pressure Sensors on 03/04 S60s so I figured that would be causing both codes.

Replaced it with the $34 Rock auto Bosch 0261230109 and the CEL hasn't returned(2 weeks).

Just wanted to share my experience as I didn't get much info from 'P0192' searches. Hopefully this will help someone.

P0171 "should not" be flagged by a fuel rail pressure sensor. I use quotes because p0171 is usually flagged by O2 data and/or fuel trim data, I'm not fluent in the logic behind fault on this car. Both of those codes would point me in the direction of the fuel pump and testing it. A clogged fuel filter makes the pump work harder and leads to pump burn out, so make sure that's been serviced. If you have access to fuel trim data you should always be rich at wide open throttle.

Hope this helps

Added part number to title for search

By the way

$200 for the Volvo one, $44 for the Bosch one from FCP - good price from Rock Auto above!

Probably a good junkyard part to scavenge too.
