Happy to find this site! I bought a 2000 s70 (125k miles) for my daughter and am now going through it before she drive it this summer. So far:
Tie rod ends
Ignition coils
Oil change
Coolant temp sensor and thermostat
Soon to have tires, alignment, and radiator hoses
Scan at O'Reilly says p0111 (IAT) and p0500 (speed sensor). ABS and CEL lights are on. From what I've found on the forum so far it looks like the ABS module is suspect. I'd appreciate any insight from you experienced Volvo guys.
Also, the hose from the power steering pump to the reservoir seems to seep fluid at the ends. I tightened the clamp but still see some leakage. There seems to be an issue with the clamps here based on other posts. Should I just replace the hose, and are there particular clamps I should use? Thanks!

Hey! Welcome to MVS, the friendliest Volvo forums around. (I'm not friendly, though, anyone will tell you. But the rest of the guys are nice.)
The intake air temp sensors can set a CEL. There are 2 sensors, up front, prone to cracking and failing. There are probably people who will chime in on the other one, but the IAT problem is a relatively easy fix, at least.
Hoses should be a priority on your list. Coolant hoses (bit of a PITA), IC/turbo hoses (easy) and vacuum hoses (bit of a PITA) should all be swapped out, probably. 80+ percent of "WTF happened?!" issues on these cars are vaccum/boost related, and coolant loss is often disastrous in a matter of seconds, since the aluminium head will warp and wreck your entire engine.
You don't have to use Oetiker clamps - regular, heat friendly hose clamps in stainless steel are what I use on all my hoses. Just make sure they've gt rounded edges, so they don't nip at your rubber (or silicone).

Haha I've only seen two people suggest that so far.Sommerfeldt wrote:(I'm not friendly, though, anyone will tell you. But the rest of the guys are nice.)
As for the ABS issues contact Matty Moo on the forum. I don't know if the 2000 models suffered from ABS module problems but he certainly will.

I only have 300-some posts, and already, there's two, you mean. I thought fair warning for the new guy was in order.polskamafia mjl wrote:Haha I've only seen two people suggest that so far. You're perfectly friendly.

1996-2001 ALL have ABS module issues at one point or another
Also change your tranny fluid ASAP! Non turbo= 5 speed=possibly deadly issues
