After overhauling my PCV last Weekend I took my 96 R for a 250mile trip yesterday and it ran awesome. Went to bed happily.
Today I had some errands to run and I noticed some strange things that I´d like to share because I´m not sure if they are correlated or not (I can´t see them being, but who knows).
First of all I occasioanlly noticed some rubbing Sound up front left when braking hard. I just redid the brakes with 302mm ATE a few weeks back, but I felt that before doing the brakes as well.
Then I wanted to squeeze into a parking lo, noticed that the power steering felt weak. I immediately checked the fluid level but it seems okay.
Then, while backing up the second time I thought I put it into R, but the car didn´t move but the Motor reved up. I checked for the arrow, but luckily didn´t see anything flashing. Put it into N, then R, and everything worked like a charm.
Later at the gas station I checked the left front tire´s pressure and it was down to 1,7 bar.
After that the brake shudder didn´t occur anymore. But over the past it only occured occasionally, so I´m not sure the tire pressure fixed that.
What I believe now is the following:
The low tire pressure made the resistance for the PS higher than normal.
Maybe the shudder during braking was caused by the tire compressing - this is highly hypothetical, though.
I hope and guess the lever was not fully engaged into R, so the AT was still in N.
This sounds stupid, but are any of these things correlated to each other or not. It was just a weird ass drive.
strange things happened today

Seems to be just a weird day... If your shifter's off just by a couple of millimeters, it usually won't engage. Engine'll rev like you said, and then f-all happens.
Tire pressure can definitely account for steering feeling weird or heavy, and most definitely the shudder during braking, when pressure's not equal on both sides.
I'd say you put it perfectly yourself - just a weird ass drive.

(though you should probably find out why your tire pressure was low all of a sudden

I think you exceeded the limit of 17 schnitzelgruben. Or you have chipmunks in your air cleaner.

Well, the key fit and it was parked in my garage. But maybe I woke up in a parallel universe where a different 850 with an according key was parked im my garage. That would explain why my wallet wasn't in the center armrest when I wanted to buy the chipmunks their schnitzels...
i guess I'll go to bed, tomorrow is a big day with 2 compressors waiting to be ziptied...
