1996 850 Wagon with ECC: I think I know the answer to this...

Post by s2zeller »

I've posted off and on over the years about problems I've been having with the Electronic Climate Control in my 850 GLT. After cleaning out the dials in the ECC dash unit, it was working flawlessly for about 6 months.

Now it is blowing different temperature air out the left and right sides as well as blowing hot when set to 64 F and cold when set to 84 F.

I'm taking an (un)educated guess that it just might be the ECC dash unit has finally cashed in.

That said, I'd gladly entertain any other possibilities on this issue.

I haven't pulled codes lately (even tho' the AC and REC lights are blinking), but as I recall the last set were pretty generic. I can do that if any thinks it will change the diagnosis.

Remove and clean the 2 cabin temp sensors behind the grab handles above the front doors. When the clog up or fail they will give you strange behaviour like this.

I'll give those a check, but they were cleaned a couple years (at most) ago.

That's probably exactly what the codes would tell you (cabin temp. sensors). It still wouldn't hurt to check if you have the means to do so.

I'll try to check codes and sensors on the weekend and report back... maybe I'll be surprised.
