Speed sensitive vs standard steering rack?

Post by MarcM »

I don't currently have the room to get this thing up in the air (got another vehicle, junker to go away hasn't left yet and troubled S60 parked lengthwise on a decline), but cranking the wheels to the right I can see a round-headed solenoid on the steering rack from driver's side. Can I assume this vehicle has the speed sensitive steering rack? The solenoids shown on rack images don't look like this and sites don't seem to have images from the left side.
Looks like this:

Yes, I know it was a dumb question. Paranoid of buying an incorrect non-returnable part. It obviously is the speed sensitive steering rack. On order, expecting Friday from www.RackDoctor.net, not looking forward to this.
$18 x ~4 qts thus far since the leak started (3 Beck-Arnley OEM equivalents and 1 Pentosin 202). My only car and have to drive it. Used to having 2-3 vehicles, sold my backup to my nephew who was in a bind. :P Leaks less after a highway drive, assumedly because the solenoid cuts down the pressure to the rack at higher speed, thusly less seal blowby. Entrance into driveway and driveway is a mess. Can probably tell my common route via satellite. ;)

I know I'm reviving an old thread but I just ordered a rack from RackDoctor ('04 V70 2.5T). I blew up the picture they have of their rack and it's identical to mine, including the small numbers. Keeping fingers crossed. I've already been sent the wrong rack by Cardone through Rock Auto and also sent in mine to have rebuilt and after 2 weeks it was sent back with a note saying they can't rebuild it. I'll post back if RackDoctor comes through!! Btw, your info here helped me determine that mine is not a speed sensitive rack. The confusion has been the fittings for the pressure lines- they seem to be backwards of what is typical for my car.
