Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 Volvo S80 2.9 Rear Electronic Module Question

Post by jnunorckln »

Hello,

On my 01 S80, my left and right rear brakes lights stopped working. I get the "Check Brake light" warning message every time I brake. The center LED light still works. After replacing the bulbs and the brake switch at the brake pedal, I took it into the mechanic. I have been told that I need to replace the Rear Engine Control module. It's a very expensive repair due to the firmware upload.

I discovered that Xemodex offers a service where you send them your Rear Engine Module and they will send back one of theirs with the firmware upload. It is much cheaper than having the mechanic do the job. The problem is that I can't find instructions on how to disconnect the wires going into the REM so that I can send it to Xmodex and of course put it back together.

I asked and Xmodex doesn't have any instructions on how to do this. They just assume you know how. Has anyone out there disconnected a REM for this model year and know how to put it back together? I can see some tangs on the unit which connects the REM to the fuses but there are wires going directly into the REM as well as what looks to be relays directly on the REM.

Thank you in advance,

Joe.
