What's up everyone! New guy around here, I have a "new" 1998 V70 XC in pretty good shape on the outside for a couple of weeks now and i have noticed some things that I'm not too sure about.
1) I started the car today and the engine went up revving a bit and back down, going all the way to 3-4k rpm for maybe 20sec and then back to normal. End of story. Put it in D or R and its all good, and doesn't do it when engine is warm, only cold start. Read about it a little and maybe some ETM problem or something like that could be the cause, still have to check it.
2) Drove it for a little at regular hwy speed and letting go of the pedal and coasting in an exit, the tranny went downshift and upshift right away. That was the firts time it did it. Seems that as long as i am touching the gas pedal it goes fine. If i drive at city speeds, sometimes it won't even upshift until i press the pedal again, in which case it goes back to normal gear position.
Anyone knows anything about this? Are they even related at all or am I lucky enough to have 2 different problems in my arms?? Any help would be awesome.
Thanks
V70 XC weird behavior...

Needed: Miles; transmission fluid condition and level, and past maintenance history if you have it, please.
The rev thing is only when you start it cold? Next drive, shut off your AC 5 minutes before you shut off the car / end your drive. See if rev happens on subsequent cold start.

Transmission fluid level is ok, color is like a tint darker that new but nothing i never saw in any car that age.
Previous owner told me he did timing belt and water pump. I know nothing else about it, but it drove super good when i got it a week earlier.
Also the A/C is pretty much of all the time even tho it still works.

Thats the engine code for missing ETM...
I don't think your 1998 has an ETM, so thats probably not the problem. It sounds like air leaks into induction causing the rev up - check the IAC hose for splits.
