97 850 NA auto brake booster vacuum line

Post by scot850 »

This vacuum line from the intake manifold to the brake booster is the original and brick hard and splitting when removed. Is there a reasonable option out there that can be used to replace it? I believe it may not be a metric diameter but imperial from something I read.

I need something that will not collapse under vacuum.

A second question is why is there a huge spring clamp on this pipe at the intake but not at the joint half way to the booster? Is it to prevent the weight of the pipe to cause it to fall off?

Thanks,

Neil.

I used 3/8 Thermoid fuel line. Holding up great. Ace hardware had it in bulk which surprised me. $1.20 per ft. US made too.
Always first off the line, while all the cool people are still staring at their phones.

Thanks, I'll look into that at local parts stores.

I replaced part of mine using metric, red silicone tubing, rated for vacuum. The section between the IM & the plastic connector you refer to. Ran out of it and no longer available locally where I bought it. Mine is rock hard like yours. Probably leaking around the joints as well.
