Volvo 240 b230fk wont ignite the fuel

Post by khof »

Hi i own a 93' volvo 240 SE
I recently did a b230fk swap cause turbo is life, well if it only would start.
My problem is that it gets way to much fuel, and it wont ignite the fuel that is coming in the engine. There is fuel smell in the exhaust and in the oil, had to change the oil twice because the oil was so thin from the fuel that had been mixed with the oil.
I have checked all my wires from the coil to the plugs, and I have spark in all plug wires. When I turn the key I can here a faint spark sound from the engine(yes the engine cranks), its hard to tell where cause there is no flash or spark visible, but it sound like its coming from the distributor. Could this cause the plugs to not ignite the fuel even though there is a spark in all plugs?
I'm out off ideas, and have tried everything I can.

Thanks in advance!

fuel injectors are working as they should, have even tried spear injectors, same problem. Could it be bad spark plug wires? There is spark in all 4 wires, but i can hear a faint sparking sound from the distributor cap.

Take out one spark plug and touch it to the block while someone cranks it. Look for a nice blue spark at the plug tip.

Check the other three or four?

If you are getting fuel in the oil then it is flooding somehow which is deep mechanizing on a fuel injected engine

I'll recheck all wires to see, it may be wrong ignition timing or faulty plug wires. Maybe the rotor is placed wrong, that its not lined up with TDC #1.
I will have to do some more fiddling around to be sure.

Let's disconnect all the injectors, give it a 2 second shot of starter fluid ( ether) into the air cleaner and see if it fires for a few revs. That will help separate fuel from spark issues
