perplexing problem 06 c70
perplexing problem 06 c70
I have a six speed manual trans. Seems the clutch holds the car steady at lower speeds but if I step on the gas in 5th or 6th gear, the clutch slips. The revs are steady and then they slip up aprox 500 rpm then back down to normal and grab again. My mechanic shrugged his shoulders and the dealer saw a $2000.00 clutch job and smiled big time. It doesn't slip other times. Can the clutch be glazed over? I'm lost on this one.

Did you get a result?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Try an european forum where they have plenty of manual tranny. Early 2000's were plagued with clutch slave cylinder issue

I'll go one better than orangex. Go over to Swedespeed.com and go to the C70 forum for your car. If you don't find anything there, go to the S40/V50 forum...there are plenty of P1 model manual transmission owners there- they will give you correct advice as to what is going on. These cars have been around now for over 10 years.

I had the fluid changed but no big change. I never thought of the European sites. I'll try that next. And Thanks Made in Japan. I forgot about Swedespeed. I'm getting closer to just biting the bullet and changing the clutch. But the dealer wants $2300.00. Ouch.
Finally bit the bullet and had the clutch changed. Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, slave cyl and flywheel. $2950.00 for the lot. I wasn't going to change the flywheel but it was apart anyway. I forgot how low the clutch should grab. Before the change it grabbed near the top of the release. Now it grabs as soon as the peddle comes off the floor. And it drives nice. So now i should be good for another 100,000 miles.

$2950---that is an ouch!! When I have to change mine (eventually, we all have to do this), I really don't know what I'll do. It's such a hassle to do it yourself and I don't know if I have the confidence to tackle it.
