P80 engine access

Post by abscate »

I thought my alternator replacement ( had it rebuilt on my 99 a few months ago.) was difficult.

I just knocked off 4 oxygen sensors on a BMW E83 M54. I'll never complain about Volvo again. Horrible "try the bottom, try from the top" tango in 6 movements.

The car has 4 oxygen sensors???? That's insane...

I actually had to replace a front O2 sensor on my brother's R56 Mini Cooper, found it quite human. (Of course, it's not a turbo so it was as simple as removing the heat shield, backing out the sensor, and disconnecting the harness.) He's got a low coolant thermostat code that necessitates replacing the whole one-piece plastic thermostat/housing thing and, well, yeah, about that... I'll get to it one day...

You are expected to drop the exhaust on an E83 since the O2 sensors are on top of the downpipes but no way was I going to end up,with 2000 bucks of exhaust work. The worst part was trying to dress the wires back into clips, blind, on the back end if a long I6 engine up on ramps. Even at 6'1" I have to mountain climb the block To get to the back ...where you still can't see the clips. Horrible.

BMW just drops the exhaust and replaces whatever they break on your dime if course.

It's running sweet and highway mileage up to 27mpg
