I'm looking for the factory, retractable netting that is housed in the rear seat-backs.
That, or a factory steel cargo gate (the kind that is held up against the ceiling).
thank you!

You really can't retrofit the useless nets that come out of the seat.
The metal ones are called dog gates, once in a blue moon they come up for sale

I have installed several sets of these nets, it is about a half hour job. They appear to work well, I have seen jy's a few which have been distorted, but never any torn ones. It is the ones used on P2 cars which are the ones which are almost impossible to retrofit.
All 98-00 V70XC's came with them as standard equipment, you just need to match up the color of the plastic covers which go over the mounts in the headliner.

No problem installing the nets in cars without them. I've done it on both of my cars. It may not be quite up to Volvo OEM standards (there are warnings about using a locking pin any time the net is removed, etc) but it works fine and I much, much prefer them to the metal gates which take up a ton of space and make a lot of noise.
