I've been looking around for a voltage regulator for my car because I think mine is starting to go bad. My voltage is a little on the low end (13.6 volts and lower if it's hot outside). My battery is less than a year old. I continuously monitor the voltage with an ultra gauge.

Other threads here say VR cost around $50 but everything I've found is much much more than that. Am I looking for the wrong part or has something changed? A lot of places I've checked say the part is discontinued and other places have something in the $150 range. I've found Bosch on eBay for about $50 but I'm really hesitant to buy car parts off of eBay unless they are used, especially if the price is too good to be true.

Anyhow, can anyone recommend a good source of a voltage regulator for a good price?

$121 for Volvo part on volvopartsonline

I would avoid a cheap, Bochs part from eBay - especially on electrical stuff

Yes. I will not buy a part from eBay as I said. I found the same part you quoted from volvopartsonline. That's a lot more than the $50 that I found thrown around in threads here as the approximate cost That's why I asked about it. Has the price gone up for some reason?

Check the date on the threads and/or try a PM to the posters. I don't think the VRs were $50 recently except maybe PnP

What's wrong with ebay? Ebay sellers have ratings for a reason.

I bought one for $35 from eEuroparts last fall. -> http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/5034/Vo ... r-4737151/

Can you look at a part and tell if it's counterfeit or not? If a price is too good to be true it's probably counterfeit. There are lots of very good fakes out there.

Which VR do you need? You have to open up the alternator to know. E.g., https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=61610.

My voltage is all over the place. Usually heat make it worse. 13.4 On the high side, 12.6 on the low side. Very common on these cars.

Have you checked it directly off the back of the alternator with a digital volt meter when the Ultra Gauge says it's low?

I got a Transpo(?) VR for my '98 V70 based on info from a thread posted on this site. If memory serves, it was an on-line purchase and cost somewhere in the $52-$65 dollar range - the higher figure might include shipping. Can't remember the seller or exactly what on-line venue -- Ebay, Amazon, etc. I probably purchased it about two years ago +/-.

http://store.alternatorparts.com. See if that works for you. That's where I get a Transpo voltage regulator for about $50 plus shipping.

They sell voltage regulators, not just complete alternators.
