17" R wheels on S70 T5, how does it look?

Post by SleeStak69 »

I'm about to get a set of Pegasus wheels off of craigslist this week, the deal is just too good to pass up. Anyways, I'll be putting 215/45/17 rubber around them so my question to the Volvo gear heads and gurus is how much taller will the car be or look with the new shoes on, if at all? I'm having a hard time finding pics of stock suspension P80 sedans with 17s, either that or some of them I can't tell are stock? Anybody have experience with this first hand or know of any good pics I can see of a car that's stock on 17s? The specs on a stock 850R (17s) is nearly identical to the stats on my '98 S70 T5 so I mean, theoretically it should turn out okay right?
In a perfect world, yes, I would lower the car. But I've been dumping a lot of money into this car and I kinda want to take a break for a bit. I just really don't want my car to look like a 4x4 :?

It won't look taller - the wheels will just look bigger. And better, I'd say. :) With that setup, I'd probably prefer to lower the car about an inch, maybe 1.5, but the car won't look like a 4x4. :) My old S70 had 215-45-17, and looked great on the stock suspension. All my pics of it is on the old 'puter, or I'd include some. :)

Thanks for the reply, man. If you don't mind, I'd love to see some pics. Did you ever lower it after a bit or did it suit fine with you as it was?

I'll see if I can find some. I never lowered it - the plan was to lower it 1.5 inches back and front, but didn't get around to it - had to get rid of it when i moved back to Norway. :) But it kind of already looked lowered a smidge with the big wheels - didn't look like it was riding high at all.

I don't have Pegs on my car but here are a couple of pictures of 17" wheels on my 2000 'R'
V70 on 17 inch wheels (1)
V70 on 17 inch wheels (1)
V70 on 17 inch wheels (2)
V70 on 17 inch wheels (2)
As the guys have said, 17" wheels with those tires make no difference to ride height, just makes wheels look bigger with more silver on view and smaller sidewall on the tires.

Neil, is that the lowered factory R suspension or didn't they lower the AWD Rs anymore (yours is AWD if it is a 2000, I guess)? Just wondering cuz my 96 R seems to sit like an inch or so lower with the 17s.

It's gorgeous - I'd love a wagon in that color. Volvo calls it 441-46 Laserblå (laser blue).

The car is still at that height and has just had a brand new set of rear springs that are correct for the car. The fronts are also correct but older and are fitted to Bilstein TD's since those pictures were taken. The Front is still at that height.

Yes it is an AWD, and it is I am told 1/40 sold in 2000 in North America.
