96 855 T5 - $5 motor mount and black interior trim?

Post by Sommerfeldt »

So, I bought a URO parts motor mount. It's the right hand side one, and it came in a big brown truck today. And it wasn't really $5, but that's what I had to fork over on top of an Amazon affiliate gift card I had hanging around - including shipping and taxes and whatnot. So I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I know how we feel about URO stuff, but remembering the thread a while ago when someone from URO actually stopped by to comment, I thought I'd see how this thing holds up (and at 5 bucks out of pocket, I think I'll survive). First impression is not super great...

There are little pieces of thin, rubbery coating falling off it, and while the mount feels solid, it leaves little black flecks of the same residue all over my hands when I handle it. Paint is already flaking off it in some places, and I don't know if that's from a scuffle on the shelves at URO, bad quality or a combo, but it doesn't feel very reassuring. I guess I'll stick it on there, and see how the car likes it, and update this half-assed (sorry about the language there, Neil ;) ) review with some second and third impressions after some miles.

I had a better-than-Uro aftermarket mount installed by my mechanic on the V70. I left it on there for less than 2000 miles before trading it out for an OEM one that is much smoother. YMMV though - my V70 vibrates a lot more than the 850 even with close to half the miles on the V.

But... but... the man said they were better now!
Yeah, you're probably right. Still... 2,50 per year. I'll have to deal with the loss somehow. ;) I've got one Corteco and one Lemforder coming for the other two, and they should last a while, at least. :)

I think that OEM is the best bet for these mounts, but I also think it heavily depends on how price sensitive you are, how sensitive you are to how your car behaves, how long you will keep the car for, and lastly, the condition of the rest of your car and especially of other mounts in the car. It seems like nearly every engine mount replacement has people who found them either acceptable or not - and I don't think it's entirely just a matter of opinion. Some people say the poly torque bushings are 'unbearable'. When I put them in my T5 I could not tell a whit of difference in vibration.

So, YMMV. But I'd avoid URO/Scantech/Pro-Parts for certain.

I would not personally buy that part - the $60 saved is not worth the potential added vibration I'd feel every time I drove the car not to mention the likely shortened lifespan.

On the other hand, at least this part is only about a 20 minute easy job to swap so it's not nearly the risk compared to something like a steering rack or subframe bushings.

Looks like FCP has better prices on all of those parts - URO and OEM - the latter being as low as $108 depending on your VIN.

Check to see which mount you need. If you need the part 8631699 I have an aftermarket mount that my mechanic installed and I swapped for an OEM mount as this V70 has an engine vibration I've been trying to track down. OEM is better but not night and day. If you want it I'd let you have it for $20 +shipping. It has maybe 1000 miles on it.

I used to able to get 8631698 Lemforder for around $60, but this part seems to be discontinued.

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... ht-8631703 This will fit a XC, if you have the shim underneath your current mount that you can you reuse.
